Unlike most people, sleep apnea hit me overnight. It developed after a stroke, giving me a heightened awareness of how debilitating sleep apnea really is.
Surprisingly, I went undiagnosed for two years and it took another 12 months to complete sleep studies, be diagnosed, and jump through the insurance hoops to get treatment. If my physician screened for sleep apnea in-office, I could have avoided those dreadful years of my life.
For most, sleep apnea gets worse gradually, so the incremental change & damage is harder to identify; but we both know—it’s still there, wreaking havoc.
An overwhelming number of people are undiagnosed and suffering, and I believe they deserve the life-changing results of sleep apnea treatment. This is what inspired me to leave my career in general dentistry to help.
